I recently aquired all of the surviving preliminary artwork for the Marvel Star Wars Annual #1. The artwork is by Mike Vosburg. The Annual was published in 1979 and was broken up into two parts. Part one contained 17 pages and part two contained 16 pages. The preliminary artwork is very interesting and in some cases very different from its published counterpart. In some instances panels are completely moved and designs have been radically changed.
This collection of artwork contains 15 of the 17 preliminary pages to part one. I am missing pages 1 and 2 and a portion of page 5 to part one. There are 14 pages of preliminary artwork for part two. As is with the case with part one I am missing pages 1, 2 and 6 but I do have an unpublished page for part two. I believe this may have been used as a recap to the first part of the story.
To make this collection even more special is the five thumbnail pages referencing each page in the story. They serve mostly as a storyboard to the comic. There are a couple missing pages to the thumbnails but they're a nice addition to the set.
Pictured here is page 14. On this page the alien has been changed on the second panel and the design of the Tie Fighters has been changed. It is drawn in pencil and is 11x17" on white paper. Also included is a look at the published page for comparison.
